Helpful Articles to Improve Your eCommerce Search Results & Revenue

internal ecommerce search engines are one of the most effective ways to drive better ecommerce store revenue. In my experience, ecommerce store users who use the search functions on an ecommerce store are twice as likely to make a purchase as those who do not use ecommerce search.

In today’s blog post, we’re featuring a couple helpful articles on how to improve your ecommerce search results and improve your revenue.

The first is a blog post with “Top 25 Best Practices for eCommerce Search” from PrefixBox, a search engine provider. Mixed in with their sales pitch, you’ll find some useful nuggets and guidelines on the importance of and how to improve your search results. Some of their suggestions are very basic, but frequently ignored by many ecommerce stores. They hit the nail on the head with their best practice point on search box visibility, my personal pet peeve. Don’t hide your search box! No one wants to click the magnifying glass icon to show the search box.

The next article is from Algolia: “How to Optimize Your eCommerce Site Search”, another search engine provider. I’ve never used their search engine, but their blog post has some useful general rules of thumb to follow. It’s lighter on the nitty gritty details of ecommerce search optimization than I’d like, but the principles are a useful starting place for newcomers. Personally, I think #6 – Optimize results is something that all ecommerce businesses should prioritize.

I hope you find these articles useful. Improving your search performance is such a productive way to use your internal company time and resources to improve ecommerce revenue without increasing your online advertising spend. More importantly, it helps to make your online advertising spend even more effective. Who could turn that down?
